After the Rain…

Taking a creative writing course this semester, this week one of our prompts was to write a poem based on two contrasting paint colors—I immediately knew which colors I wanted to use, so here is After the Rain…

After the Rain
I miss the pattering
of tin roof songs
of hungry skies
I miss the smell
of petrichor
of puddle dives

After the rain…
I remember times
of inward pursuits
of childhood mirth
I remember times
of cocoa and cakes
around the hearth

After the rain…
I burrow in
I bundle up
it brings to mind
the… Emberglow

After the rain…
I burrow in
I bundle up
it brings to mind
the… Emberglow

The flickering flames
that dance and mingle
wood falls to charcoal
the dance it slackens
embers burn with hope
still warming the soul

After the rain—
we see the embers glow.
